• Treasuries gained for the third consecutive week while equities had a choppy week closing nearly flat due to mixed corporate earnings announcements.
• US based equity mutual funds took in $5.1 billion for the week, their fifth largest weekly inflow in a decade.
• For December, retail sales rose 0.2%, the consumer price index rose 0.3% and industrial production also increased 0.3%
• US Initial jobless claims came in at 326,000.
• Small-cap stocks outperformed large-cap stocks while large-cap growth outperformed large-cap value stocks.
• Info tech and telecom services were the best performing sectors for the week while consumer discretionary and consumer staples were the worst performing sectors.
• For the week ending 1/17/14, the S&P 500 fell -0.20% closing at 1838.7. The MSCI EAFE Index gained 0.49% closing at 1919.9 and the MSCI EM Index rose 0.22% to end the week at 972.27.
